guimet, emile etienne (1836-1918), French industrialist.

Born in Lyons, he succeeded his father in the direction of his factory at Fleurien-sur-Saône. In 1879, he founded the Archaeological and Anthropological Museum at Lyons, which was handed over to the French government and transferred to Paris in 1885. Its contents are mainly from the Far East, with a fair amount of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquities. It sponsored a fine series of publications, including a number on Egyptology and Coptology.
